Want to wake up feeling like you rule the world? That seas rise when you give the word? Then start your mornings with “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay. That’s according to Spotify’s brand new “Wake Up” playlist, which was built with help from music psychologist David M. Greenberg from the University of Cambridge.

Much attention has been given to Spotify’s playlists designed to help you get to sleep, but not so much on the equally important act of waking up. Their new “Wake Up” playlist currently features 20 tracks, and runs an hour and 17 minutes — enough for even the most dedicated snooze-button enthusiast.

“Viva La Vida” kicks things off, but other spirited songs follow. Assuming you don’t hit shuffle, your first waking 30 (after "Viva La Vida") will feature:

  • “Elevate,” St. Lucia
  • “Downtown,” Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, feat. Eric Nally, Melle Mel, Koole Moe Dee & Grandmaster Caz
  • “Lovely Day,” Bill Withers
  • “Wake Me Up,” Avicii
  • “Can’t Sleep Love,” Pentatonix

There are also newer, boppy hits such as “Warm Blood” by Carly Rae Jepsen, and a refreshing indie voice courtesy of Arcade Fire's “Wake Up”. Other tracks include “Confident” by Demi Lovato, “Money On My Mind” by Sam Smith and, almost too predictably, “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina & The Waves.

Admittedly, it’s not the coolest playlist we’ve ever seen. (Sorry, Macklemore — 6 a.m. is not time to hear about a trip to the moped store.) But if this playlist can actually jumpstart your half-dead brain, who are we to naysay?
